Scott Neilson Jones was born May 2, 1938 in Spanish Fork, Utah.
Grandma Jones would often call him to the dinner table "Scotty!" ...he would pretend he didn't here her because he wanted to keep on playing. Later he would feel bad about that. His daddy worked on the railroad and they lived in a small house while he engineered there on the railway. Scott had four siblings, Arlene, Merril, Becky, (him) and then Paula. His mother and father were Lucille Jessie Neilsen and Jay Paul Jones. He had a happy childhood and was raised in the church but went inactive as a younger adolescent and grew up and joined the Air Force for four years and then afterwards went to college in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There he met "Rose" :) or also known as Audrey Ann Rubel. He fell in love with this beautiful non-member. They married civilly on November 19, 1960 in Eagle Bend Minnesota. Grandpa Jones once insisted to Grandma when they were first married that she cut his hair. She refused several times because she said she wasn’t sure how to. She finally relented after his persevering insistence on the matter. She cut it so bad that he had to go into the barber and have him fix it, which was STILL hard for the barber to resolve. Grandpa at the time had been working at a hotel as a bell-boy and the famous comedian Georgie Gessel had checked in that week. Grandpa was called to his room for an errand and he said he was so embarrassed about the back of his head, (since it was shaved off pretty much) that he helped Mr. Gessel with his things and then backed out of the room slowly, so he couldn’t see. Not long after, they had their first child Jeffrey Scott and then Rebecca three years after that. It was during this time Grandpa was going to school and Grandma was working at Honeywell. Grandpa remembers a time where Becky dropped her cut-carrots on the floor and outside was so cold that the draft from the door froze them a few seconds after they had fallen as he picked them up. Audrey went to her own Lutheran church for awhile, while Scott would sometimes go to his. One day Jeff and "Becky" pointed out loud, "Look there's daddy's church...and there's mommy's church!" This upset the Jones parents and so Audrey began investigating with many different missionaries from various churches. It wasn't until after she read and prayed about the Book of Mormon, that she was baptized into the church and later sealed to Scott and their children in the Manti, Utah temple. After this wonderful event, they went on to have two more additions to the family: Bethany and Stephen Merril Jones. They were a close family and after their children had married and left home, they left to the Atlanta, Georgia mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They are currently very strong in the gospel and are now serving in the Pocatello, Idaho Mission.

-To me, when I think of Grandpa, I see a man who is so dedicated to the gospel and his horses that he doesn't seem to have much time for himself...unless BYU is playing. My grandpa is such a strong person in the gospel, that it is often hard to think of him as being inactive as a young adult. My childhood memories are filled with his "Hmummm Humm Humm," as he cleared his throat, or him letting me feed his heifers with a bottle of milk, or riding his horsies around the corral. I LOVE my grandpa! He was an accountant for many years until he retired about 10 years ago...he loves math!...;p I love talking about the gospel with him and I love how he calls my grandma Rose. :) He is such a funny charismatic person. I am so grateful that I am sealed into his family. He is a wonderful example to his children and grandchildren, and now...great-grandchildren. He always has gospel advice for you when you walk through his door or tries to get you to join the Air Force. Oh and he loves John Wayne and Golf. :D ...Oh and he loves Clam Chowder.
-Love, Emy Ann
